Alan van Bergen, who received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute, has had a long career as a graphic designer and fashion photographer in his Manhattan based firm of Stevens and van Bergen. He is the recipient of an American Institute of Graphic Arts award for design excellence.

He transitioned to fine arts with studies under Robert Phillipp, Daniel Greene and other distinguished artists at the Art Students League where he is represented in their permanent collection. He also studied at the National Academy of Design. While pursuing these studies he also wrote, and had published, several short stories.
